I coxed today with Richard Jones in our mighty Ribcraft with 9 divers to the “drop-off” 2.3 NM South of Plymouth breakwater. We shotted an area on the top of the drop-off in 34m near a large anchor. The divers were then able to swim South down the near vertical face to 40+m. The sea was still warm at 17 degrees with plankton bloom shallower but 7-8m viz on the bottom. Lots of Sealife seen including an Octopus, Crayfish and a Conger eating a Dogfish! The sea was kind with a small chop from the Northerly breeze Beaufort 3-4 with bright sunshine but feeling very cool on the boat. We recovered to our boathouse at the Mount Batten Watersports & Activities Centre with most of us going to the pub for a drink. A super day out

A lovely morning out diving the Plymouth Drop Off with 9 divers and 2 coxes, making the most of the calm seas with the north easterly winds blue skies and sunshine. Was quite chilly on the Rib with the fresh wind but the sea temp a lot warmer. Video to follow soon…

The Plymouth Drop Off dive turned out to be a good choice. The walls were covered with large crawfish, many pink sea fans, lots of pink, red and White Sea fingers, yellow cluster anenomes as well as conger eels, dogfish, lobsters, loads of starfish, small fishes everywhere and sea urchins and on top of the wall along the seabed at around 30m are several ammunitions, bits of pottery and spidge.
The sea was calm on the way out but was getting choppy by the time we had finished. Back at boat shed just after 1pm with plenty of time for post dive lubrication and compare dive notes ![]()
