Training & Equipment
We no longer provide training for new entrants to the sport. This is because as a coastal club we are literally surrounded by professional outfits providing initial training. We cannot really compete with the timescales they offer to get people into the water, relying as we do on volunteers, their time, as well as pool availability. We can point you in the direction of a diver training school based at the famous Fort Bovisand where they train to BSAC standards, click here for details. Once you have passed the intitial stages and are ready for open water diving we would warmly welcome you to our club, where what we can offer, and we think to a very high standard, is onward training to gain more qualifications. |

Plymouth Sound also runs regular skill development courses in subjects like boat handling, oxygen administration, practical rescue management, nav aids and position fixing, chartwork, archaeology, marine identification. These are usually run by members with nationally recognised qualifications and are all designed to make you a better diver better able to enjoy your diving.
We have two Rigid Inflatable Boats, a 5.8 m Tornado and a 6.8m Ribcraft fully equipped with 115 HP and 223 HP engines respectively, marine VHF radios, O2 Kits, Echo Sounders and GPS Navigators. The Branch has it's own air compressor (with clean air filter for oxygen clean cylinders) and storage bank. Air is FREE to all members. The club has Nitrox facilities and charges £1.50 a Nitrox fill to members.
Already qualified with another agency? Want to join and have non-BSAC diving qualifications? We welcome divers who have learned to dive with other training agencies (PADI, SAA, NAUI etc.) We can also offer you BSAC crossover-training programmes which allow you to build upon what you already know.
