DIVING OUTLOOK :
PLEASE NOTE - at the August committee meeting it was decided that the dive fee for dives outside a 10 nautical mile radius of a point from Shagstone or Penlee Point would incur an additional £5 charge. This decision has been taken after careful consideration of alternatives to deal with rising fuel prices. Posters have been placed in the boathouse to show which sites are included within that 10nm double radius. The fact that a dive may attract this higher rate of dive fee will be displayed on the club notices and in DMs emails.
It has also been confirmed that the club boat insurance only provides cover out to 20 statute miles from a safe haven. There is another poster in the boathouse which shows this radius from the port of Plymouth and also Salcombe. Dive Managers must ensure, in their planning, that we do not operate outside of this limit. For further advice contact the DO.
A safety chain has been fitted to both trailers, ensure it is in place for launching on slipway do not use on the road
Email or text the Dive Manager to book on to ensure your place. You are reminded that if you just turn up, you will not get turned away as long as there is room on the boat and your qualification fits in with the following-
Saturday and Sunday morning dives- All qualified divers will be catered for.
Deep Dives- All divers must be approved by the Diving Officer to conduct Deep Dives within the club.
All other dives- Depth and qualification restrictions will apply as appropriate to the dive site targeted. This is to be stated (if required) when the dive is announced to avoid disappointment.
Dive Managers will advertise any other planned dives via the group email system, but please confirm with the Diving Officer first by emailing
Diving Officers Report:
Despite the changeable weather we enjoyed some good diving last week. See our FB page for more details and bright and colourful photographs.
On Wednesday12th four divers enjoyed the Drop Off (DM Ruth) with 5-6m viz and prolific marine life including a profusion of Crawfish. See Lynne's report on FB.
Saturday 15th six divers enjoyed the Drop Off (DM John) with it's spectacular topography and varied marine life.
Sadly dives planned for Friday, Sunday and Monday were cancelled through lack of numbers or inclement weather.
The club Tornado and three of our National Instructors had a fun weekend with a BSAC Advanced Instructor course which was based out of MBC.
Please would Dive Managers promulgate information regarding their dives by email on all occasions via the group 'gaggle' address. This should include confirmation that dive is going ahead (minimum of 4 met), special requirements or limitations, changes of times, proposed sites and cancellation. Facebook is also an excellent means of communication and has the advantage that non-members can see what we are doing. This promotes the club to would-be members, so if you have the skills and opportunity please use this medium as an adjunct.
